This day is proposed to increase public awareness of the role that tourism plays in the global community and to show how it influences global social, cultural, political, and economic values. The day is also observed to raise awareness of the global issues listed in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to highlight the contributions that the tourist sector can make to achieving those objectives.
