Any person eligible to avail of rural storage scheme, farmers/farmers’ groups/producers’ groups, partnership / proprietary firms, NGOs, self-help groups, companies and corporations, cooperatives, non-municipal local bodies, rural federations, agricultural produce Marketing committees (NPMCs) can be all rural areas including marketing boards and agro-processing corporations across the country.

Rural storage scheme subsidy rules

1. There are certain conditions laid down by the government for providing subsidy under the rural storage scheme. Under this scheme SC / ST, 33% subsidy up to 3 crore is provided to farmers and their groups living in hilly and difficult areas.
2. The subsidy for the project related to all farmers, agricultural graduates and cooperative organizations has been fixed at 25% and a maximum of 2.25 crore rupees can be provided under it.
3. In addition to the farmers, 15% subsidy up to Rs. 1.35 crore is provided to all the lionesses, companies and corporations of all the lionesses who build the warehouse.

• The main objectives of this program include creation of scientific storage capacity in rural areas with ancillary facilities to meet the needs of farmers for storing agricultural produce and processed agricultural products.

• Under the rural storage scheme, farmers are provided loans from the government for the purpose of storing their own crops, on which the farmers also get a subsidy from the government.
• Subsidy under this scheme is related to institutional credit and is only given for such projects which are from commercial banks, regional rural banks, state cooperative banks, state cooperative agriculture and rural development banks, agricultural development finance corporations, urban cooperative banks, etc were funded.

• This loan is provided under very easy terms, which can be repaid in 11 years.
• Farmers can also avail the benefit of this scheme by building a warehouse of their own or by making a collective Godown.
• The network of rural storage will increase the holding capacity for small farmers, to sell their produce at a reasonable price, not by selling them in thunderstorms.
•  Accordingly, the Rural Storage Scheme was started in 2001-02 under the Capital Investment Subsidy Scheme for the construction / renovation of rural warehouses.
• Under this scheme, the applicant is required to take a license for the godown.
• Warehouses with a capacity of 1 thousand tons or more must be accredited by the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC).
