How to apply for Tatkaal Passport?

Steps to Apply for Passport and Online Form Submission
Step 1. Register through the Passport Seva Online Portal. (Click on “Register Now” link on the Home Page).

Step 2. Login to the Passport Seva Online Portal with the registered Login Id.

Step 3. Click “Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport” link.

Step 4. Fill in the required details in the form and submit.

Step 5. Click the “Pay and Schedule Appointment” link on the “View Saved/Submitted Applications” screen to schedule an appointment.

Online Payment has been made mandatory for booking appointments at all PSK/POPSK/PO.

Online Payment can be made using any one of the following modes:

  • Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard and Visa)
  • Internet Banking (State Bank of India (SBI) Associate Banks and Other Banks)
  • SBI Bank Challan

Step 6. Click the “Print Application Receipt” link to print the application receipt containing Application Reference Number (ARN)/Appointment Number.

Note: Carrying printout of Application Receipt is no longer required. An SMS with your appointment details is also accepted as proof of appointment during your visit to Passport Office.

Step 7. Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Regional Passport Office (RPO) where appointment has been booked, along with original documents.

Note:

  • Only emergency/medical cases and preapproved categories may visit Passport Seva Kendra without appointment. Service will be provided at the discretion of Passport Seva Kendra in-charge/Passport Officer.
  • In case of minor applicants (below 4 years of age), carry the recent passport size photograph (4.5 X 3.5 cm) with white background.
    Resubmission of application form is required, in case the applicant does not visit the Passport Seva Kendra within 90 days from the online form submission.

Step 3 : After this, enter the type of application, application number and date of birth and click on Track Status

Step 4 : Now the status of passport application will appear on the computer and mobile screen in front of you.

Tatkal Passport Eligibility

Eligibility
The jurisdictional passport office decides the final verdict on the issuance of a passport under the tatkal scheme. The urgency of the passport, along with other compelling factors concerning the applicant, would be reviewed before the final verdict. It should be noted that individuals falling under any of the following categories cannot apply or reapply for a passport under this particular scheme.

  • Indian citizens who have been granted citizenship status on the basis of their naturalization or registration.
  • Citizens born to Indian parents (Indian descent) outside India.
  • Applicants who have been repatriated from another country at the Government’s cost.
  • Applicants who have been deported to India from any other country.
  • Individuals who have undergone a significant Name Change.
  • Citizens originating from Nagaland but reside outside Nagaland.
  • Residents of Jammu and Kashmir
  • Residents of Nagaland
  • Minor children who have single parents.
  • Children adopted by Indian and Foreign parents.
  • Minors residing within Nagaland
  • Short passport validity renewal
  • Passports damaged beyond the point of recognition.
  • Lost or stolen passports
  • Significant changes in gender or appearance.
  • Changes in personal credentials such as one’s signature.

* Also applicable for minors between 15 to 18 years of age, who wish to get a 10-year full validity passport.
** If the application for a new passport is made under Tatkaal scheme, tatkaal fee is to be paid in addition to the application fee mentioned above.

List of acceptable documents:
To obtain a passport on out of turn basis submit any three of the documents listed below.

  1. Aadhaar Card/e-Aadhar containing the 12 digit Aadhaar number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India(UIDAI)
  2. Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC)
  3. Service Photo Identity Card issued by State/Central Government, Public Sector Undertakings, local bodies or Public Limited Companies
  4. SC/ST/ OBC Certificates
  5. Arms Licenses
  6. Pension Documents such as ex-servicemen’s Pension Book/Pension Payment order, ex-servicemen’s Widow/Dependent Certificates, Old Age Pension Order, Widow Pension Order
  7. Self-Passport (unrevoked and undamaged)
  8. Income Tax Identity (PAN) Cards

  • In complex cases, such as adoption, application on behalf of a minor from single parent, major change in name, duplicate passport, doubtful documentation, the processing time will be approximately 30 days excluding the date of submission of application. Ques 1: How can I apply for a Tatkaal passport?
Ans: Passports can be now obtained under the “Tatkaal” Scheme without providing the Verification Certificate from a Gazetted Officer which was required earlier. The documents to be submitted for getting a passport under this Scheme have been notified vide G.S.R. 939(E) dated 16 December, 2019. Applicants may submit any three of the documents specified in the List of Acceptable Documents for obtaining passport under the Tatkaal Scheme.
Ques 2: Is a Verification Certificate required from a Gazetted Officer to get a passport under the Tatkaal Scheme?
Ans: No. A Verification Certificate is not required from a Gazetted Officer to get a passport under the Tatkaal Scheme.

Ques 5: Can I apply for passport under the Tatkaal scheme?
Ans: The final authority for the issuance of passport under the Tatkaal scheme lies with the passport office. But there are list of applicants who cannot apply for passport under the Tatkaal scheme. Ques 6: My passport booklet is damaged. I want to go abroad on urgent basis. What should I do?
Ans: In case your passport has been damaged but recognizable, i.e. passport number is readable, name is legible and photo is intact, then you can apply for re-issue of passport under the Tatkaal scheme. But, if passport has been damaged beyond recognition, then you cannot apply under the Tatkaal scheme. In that case, you need to visit Passport Officer at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra to get the passport on urgent basis.
Ques 7: If parents have passport with adverse Police Verification Report or they have a criminal background, can passport be issued to minor on an urgent basis?
Ans: In such cases, minors can be issued passport under the Tatkaal scheme subject to Passport Officer’s (POs) approval.
Ques 8: Can Indian citizens belonging to Nagaland apply for the passport under the Tatkaal scheme?
Ans: NO
Ques 9: For Tatkaal applications, while booking appointment I am asked to choose appointment quota. What is appointment quota?
Ans: Two appointment quota ‘Normal’ and ‘Tatkaal’ are available for ‘Tatkaal’ applications. Tatkaal applicants who are not able to book an early appointment under Tatkaal quota may consider booking appointment under Normal quota also. However, Tatkaal fee will be charged irrespective of the quota under which appointment was booked byTatkaal applicant.A Tatkaal application is not only to get an early appointment but also for faster processing. For example, a Tatkaal application would be processed under post (police) verification. The print queue is also separate thus ensuring faster print of Tatkaal passports i.e. a Tatkaal passport would be dispatched within 1-3 days of applicant visiting PSK as against a Normal application which would take longer.

It has come to the notice of the Ministry that many fraudulent websites and mobile applications are collecting data from applicants and also levying additional hefty charges for filling up the online application form and scheduling appointment for Passport and related services. Some of these fake website are registered in the domain name *.org, *.in, *.com such as www.indiapassport.org, www.online-passportindia.com, www.passportindiaportal.in, www.passport-india.in, www.passport-seva.in, www.applypassport.org and many other similar looking websites.

It is therefore advised to all citizens applying for Indian Passport and related services that they should NOT visit to the above mentioned fraudulent websites or make payment related to passport services.
