About National Immunization Day : India observes National Vaccination Day sometime called as National Immunization Day (NID) on 16th March every year. National Immunization Day was first observed on 16th March 1995 when first dose of Oral Polio Vaccine was given.

History of Immunization Day: Every year, India observes National Immunisation Day in January to mark the launch of pulse polio programme. India has been implementing the Pulse Polio Programme since 1995. In India, the last case of wild polio was reported on 13 January 2011.
India has eradicated polio completely in 2012. In order to sustain the eradication, GoI organizes Pulse Polio immunization campaigns on the standards set by World Health Organization (WHO). The next round of National Immunization Day is to be held in March 10.

There are two types of vaccines that are being administered in the country. It includes IPV (Inactivated Polio Vaccine) and OPV (Oral Polio Vaccine).
