Latest News Update:  Students belonging to well-to-do families will not get free laptops under Biju Yuva Sashaktikaran Yojana (BYSY) in the State from next year.

Officer in-charge of Higher Education Performance Tracking Cell Mihir Kumar Das said the provision of income criteria will be included in the guidelines for distribution of laptops to meritorious Plus II students under the scheme from next academic session.

Summary: The State Government would provide free laptops to meritorious students, who have successfully cleared the annual Plus II examinations 2020, by December this year.

The students would get the laptops under the Biju Yuva Sashaktikaran Yojana, the Free Laptop Tablet Distribution Scheme to Meritorious Students.

A merit list of students eligible for the laptops would be released by the department soon.

Out of 15,000 laptops to be distributed among the students who have cleared Plus II examinations successfully in the current academic session, 7000 laptops will be distributed among students in Science, 5,400 in Arts and 2000 in Commerce stream.

Besides, 400 meritorious students in Sanskrit and 200 in Vocational Education stream will be eligible for the scheme in the current year.

Supply & Budget of the Free Laptop

The department has shortlisted 30 nodal colleges and appointed 30 nodal officers in this regard and asked the Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) to supply the laptops to these colleges for distribution at the district level.

A budget of `41.86 crore has also been set aside for the purpose, the laptop distribution process will be completed by the end of December.

• The Principal of Nodal Colleges may appoint more officials to assist him/her for safe keeping and smooth distribution of laptops.
• The list of eligible students of the respective Nodal Centres available on the website of the Higher Education Department.
• Before distribution the laptop to the beneficiary student, the Principal of the concerned Nodal Center shall ensure the authenticity of the student by keeping a certificate of identification from the concerned
• Principal/Head of the institution from where the students has passed along with original Admit Card of CHSE/College identity Card.

• Certificate of identification from the concerned Principal/Head of the institution from where the student has passed
• Original Admit Card of CHSE/College identity Card.
• Residence Certificate

Beneficiary Guidelines

• Permanent resident of Odisha
• The meritorious students who pass +2 level from CHSE, Odisha would be eligible to receive laptop under the scheme.
• All the students must age between 18 to 25 years.

Note: The Government had issued revised guidelines about the eligibility criteria. As per the guidelines, apart from the meritorious students in Arts, Science and Commerce streams, the vocational students passing from the CHSE and the Upashastri students from the Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya, Puri are also eligible to get free laptops under the scheme.
