Summary: The proposal of the BharatNet project was approved in the cabinet meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi. Under this scheme, an optical fiber network facility will be provided to all the villages of 16 states through BharatNet.
The Union Cabinet gave its approval to the BharatNet project on 30 June 2021. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 30 approved the revised implementation strategy of BharatNet through Public-Private Partnership (PPP Model) in 16 states of the country.
Under this scheme, optical fiber network facility will be provided to all the villages of these 16 states through BharatNet. An estimated viability gap funding of Rs 19,041 crore has been approved for the scheme.

BharatNet Connection Online Registration Process
The department of telecommunications (DoT) is soon going to come out with a request for proposal (RFP) or tender inviting private players to participate in the BharatNet project under the public private partnership (PPP) model. The Digital Communications Commission (DCC), which is an inter-ministerial panel and highest decision-making body of DoT, is scheduled to discuss the RFP proposal and concessionaire agreement on July 5. The DoT aims to connect 3.6 lakh villages in 16 states under PPP mode in 18 months.
The Indian Government announced that it had allocated an additional INR 19.041-crore (US$2.6 billion) in order to divert efforts towards the expansion as well as up-gradation of BharatNet, which is a nationwide initiative aimed at connecting over 600,000 villages with the optic fibre-based network so as to ensure the delivery of Internet services.

Procedure to Apply Online for BharatNet Connectivity For Service Provider 2022
Step 1- Visit the Official Website of BharatNet Scheme i.e. bbnl.nic.in.
Step 2- On the Homepage, Click on the Option “Apply Online” button.
Step 3- The application Form page will be displayed on the screen.
Step 4- Now enter the required details (Mention all the details such as name, father/ husband name, date of birth, gender, caste and other information) and upload documents.
Step 5- Click on Submit Button for the final submission of the application.
In order to apply for BharatNet connectivity you have to follow the steps given below:-
1st Step
Step 1- Please first you have to fill the application form for BharatNet bandwidth or BBNL dark fibre
Step 2- You can download these forms by Clicking Here
Step 3- Now you are necessary to enter this form by entering all the important information about your firm/company, location, etc
Step 4- All the important information should be filled in carefully in this form
Step 5- Now this application form is required to be signed by the authorized signatory
Step 6- For BharatNet connectivity requirement in one state or union territory, only one application form is required to be filled
Step 7- Following documents are required to be attached to the application form:-
- MOA & AOA/ License of company
- GST certificate
- Company PAN card
- Letter of authorization of authorized signatory
- The ID of the authorized signatory and PAN card
2nd Step
Step 8- The service provider can send the application form and scanned copy of all the other documents to commercial@bbnlindia.in in order to expedite the processing of the application form
Step 9- The hard copies of the above-mentioned document and application form are to be sent to the following address

3rd Step
Step 10- After the receipt of the application, BBNL is going to issue a demand note to the service provider for making payment

| BharatNet Scheme 2022: Online Application Form PDF Download – Bharat Net Project is the new brand name of National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) which was launched in October 2011 to provide broadband connectivity to all 2.5 Lakh Gram Panchayats. It was renamed Bharat Net in 2015. Through BharatNet, all the villages of 16 states will be provided with the facility of optical fiber network. BharatNet And Its Services
As part of the plan, under a public-private partnership (PPP) mode, the concessionaire will be selected through a competitive international bidding process and will be responsible for creation, upgradation, operation, maintenance and utilisation of BharatNet. The revised strategy will be followed in 16 states for now.
Bandwidth
Using GPON technology point to point and point to multipoint bandwidth from block to gram panchayat is offered. All the service providers and government agencies who want to provide services to the gram panchayat level can connect to BharatNet at the block location. The service provider has to provide its services to the end customer in the gram panchayat using its own technology. This Bandwidth offered at affordable and attractive prices in order to promote the digital ecosystem
Dark Fiber
It is an unused optical fibre that has been laid but is not currently being used in fibre-optic communications. Since fibre-optic cable transmits information in the form of light pulses, a ‘dark’ cable refers to one through which light pulses are not being transmitted.
Companies lay extra optical fibres in order to avoid cost repetition when more bandwidth is needed. It is also known as unlit fibre.

16 States To Get Broadband Connection Under BharatNet Scheme
The Union Cabinet had earlier this week approved a revised implementation strategy for the BharatNet project by opting for PPP mode in 16 states to cover around 3,60,000 villages at a total cost of Rs 29,430 crore. Of this, the government will provide Rs 19,041 crore as viability gap funding.
The states to be covered under the revised plan are Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
Implementation:
The project is a Centre-State collaborative project, with the states contributing free Rights of Way for establishing the Optical Fibre Network. The three-phase implementation of the BharatNet project is as follows:
