Summary: Agneepath or Agnipath Recruitment scheme was launched by the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The central government on announced a recruitment scheme under which soldiers will be recruited for four-year service periods, after which a quarter will be brought into regular service. The scheme will increase employment opportunities and aim to create a youthful profile of the armed forces.

The ‘Agniveers‘ will be given a good pay package and an exit retirement package after four years of service A total of 46000 soldiers would be recruited every year. Of these, about 25% would be retained for an additional tenure of 15 years for permanent commission. The others would be allowed to leave and given a Seva Nidhi – a corpus of one time amount of Rs. 11.71 lakh plus interest. This amount would be tax free and can be used by the individual to further their dreams.

The ‘Seva Nidhi’ will be exempt from Income Tax. There shall be no entitlement to gratuity and pensionary benefits.Agniveers will be provided non-contributory Life Insurance Cover of Rs 48 lakhs for the duration of their engagement period in the Indian Armed Forces.

Eligibility of Agneepath Yojana

Agniveer (General Duty) (All Arms)

• Applicant’s age should be between 17.5 to 23 years.
• Agniveer should have secured minimum 45% aggregate marks in class X and 33% marks in each subject in class X.
• The boards that follow the grading system must have obtained a minimum D grade in each subject by Agniveer and must have obtained an overall C2 grade.

Agniveer (technical) (all arms) and Agniveer (technical) (aviation and ammunition examiner)

• Applicant’s age should be between 17.5 to 23 years.
• Agniveer should have secured 50% marks in class 12th Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English and minimum 40% marks should be obtained in these four subjects or
• Those applicants who have done Nios or ITI course can also apply under the scheme. They must have done NSQF Level 4 or above course in the required field of minimum 1 year duration.

Agniveer Clerk/Store Keeper (technical) (all arms)

• Applicant’s age should be between 17.5 to 23 years.
• Agniveer should have passed 12th class. Must have secured minimum 50% marks in each subject.
• The aggregate marks under this scheme have been fixed at 60%.
• It is mandatory for Agniveer to get 50% marks in class 12th in maths/accounts/book keeping.

Agniveer Tradesman (all arms) 10th pass

• Applicant’s age should be between 17.5 to 23 years.
• Agniveer should have passed 10th class.
• Applicant must have secured minimum 33% marks.

Agniveer Tradesman (all arms) 8th pass

• Applicant’s age should be between 17.5 to 23 years.
• The applicant should have passed class VIII.
• Applicant must have secured minimum 33% marks.

What is Agnipath scheme?

Agnipath is a pan India merit-based recruitment scheme for enrolling soldiers, airmen and sailors. The scheme provides an opportunity for youth to serve in the regular cadre of the armed forces. All those recruited under the ‘Agnipath’ scheme will be called ‘Agniveers’.

Agnipath Recruitment Scheme Eligibility Criteria

• All India’ ‘All Classes’.
• Under Agnipath scheme, Indian youngsters will be provided an opportunity to serve in armed forces as Agniveer.

Age limit: Enrolment will be based on ‘All India All Class’ basis and the eligible age will be in range from 17.5 to 21 years.

Educational Qualification: The educational qualification for Agniveers will remain as in vogue for enrollment in various categories. Ex. for entry into General Duty (GD) soldier, the educational qualification is Class 10. Table given below.

Other Requirements: Recruits would have to meet the medical eligibility conditions laid down for enrolment in the armed forces as applicable to respective categories/trades.
